Please refer to the guidelines below to ensure the best possible outcomes for your dental emergency.

Guidelines for Handling Common Dental Emergencies

If you experience a dental emergency, please take the following:

  1. Contact Celes Dental Studio at 708-246-2405 for an emergency appointment.
  2. Rinse your mouth with a lukewarm saltwater solution.
  3. Take an over-the-counter pain medication to relieve your discomfort.
  4. Place an ice pack against the affected cheek to reduce pain and swelling.

NOTE: If you have uncontrolled bleeding from the mouth or suffer a life-threatening emergency, please contact 911 for immediate assistance.

Type of Dental Emergency Type of Dental Emergency Seek Care Now Seek Care Within 24 Hours
Severe Tooth Pain Use dental floss to remove any food trapped between two teeth that may be causing the pain. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the painful tooth to prevent damage to the gum tissues.
A Knocked-Out Tooth If the tooth is dirty, pick it up by the crown and rinse it without touching or removing any attached tissues. Gently insert the tooth into its socket and keep it in place using gentle pressure. If that’s not possible, place the tooth in some milk and bring it to your emergency appointment. The sooner you get the needed care, the better the outcomes. Note: Do not reinsert a knocked-out baby tooth.
A Loose or Displaced Tooth A loose or displaced tooth needs prompt attention. Rinse your mouth and place gentle pressure on the tooth to keep it in place.
An Infected or Abscessed Tooth An infected tooth can pose a serious risk to your health. If you have persistent pain, a bump on your gums that resembles a pimple, facial swelling, or fever, contact us for immediate care.
A Chipped or Broken Tooth Rinse your mouth and place cold compresses to relieve any pain. Collect any pieces of the tooth and place them in some milk before heading to your emergency appointment.
Injured Tongue or Lips If your tongue or lips are injured, place light pressure to reduce the bleeding. If the bleeding does not stop, head to the nearest emergency room.
A Broken or Lost Dental Restoration Use dental cement or sugar-free gum to keep your restoration in place. Avoid using super glue or any other non-dental adhesive to hold a crown or filling in place.
A Minor Tooth Chip Collect any parts of the tooth and place them in some milk to keep them moist.
